Online Memorial for Covid Victims Launched
02 Feb 2021

A group of doctors and social workers have aired an online memorial to commemorate Indian Covid victims. The future maintenance of the virtual memorial- nationalcovidmemorial.in will be carried out by the doctors, health workers, and journalists.

The memorial was launched by the Covid Care Network, a non-governmental organization based in the eastern city of Kolkata.

The family members and friends of the victims will be blessed to have the facility to pay their tributes to those beloved left them. India has reported more than 154,500 Covid-19 deaths so far.

Tributes are now rushing to this website from all over the country. The families need to upload the death certificates of their loved ones or provide their phone number for verification.

“This memorial will restore some dignity of the people who died and were cremated without even their families being allowed to attend the funeral”, Dr. Abhijit Chowdhury of the Network said.

The memorial is a solace for the reason that during the pandemic, family members of the victims were not allowed to attend the funerals as per the existing Covid protocol.

N Ram, director of The Hindu Group of Publications, said, “The memorial has to be inclusive. We should not be missing anyone.”
